Expanding Access to Ethical, High-Quality Clinical Research
Founded in 2020, CREA-N was established with a mission to create a robust regional and national footprint of diverse research centres and experienced investigators. Our goal is to make research accessible across geographic, socioeconomic, and cultural boundaries, ensuring diverse populations are represented in research and helping close the gap in global health evidence.
Our journey began with the successful delivery of Phase III cardiovascular clinical trial in 2019, laying the foundation for what would become CREA-N. Since then, we have evolved into a growing clinical research network comprising 5 research units across Kenya and Rwanda that are committed to generating evidence that addresses local health priorities while contributing to global medical innovation. Today, we stand as a female-led pioneer in the African clinical landscape, advancing tailored research that addresses local health needs with international standards of excellence.

Answering the Urgent Need for Local Research
Africa accounts for 25% of the world's disease burden, but hosts only 4% of global clinical trials.
The lack of participation in global clinical research is driven by significant gaps in research infrastructure, regulatory complexity, and a shortage of trained research professionals. This exclusion means medical solutions are often developed without sufficient data from diverse African populations.
CREA-N is closing this gap through an integrated network of research-ready centres. We harmonize standard operating procedures (SOPs), strengthen regulatory pathways, and build local research capacity, to deliver high-quality, ethical clinical research that meets both local and international standards.
